 HMS Lochinvar is in Port Edgar in South Queensferry.First called HMS Columbine and used as a destroyer base in the first World War, it was then used as a holiday camp for poor families in the 30's. Changed its name to HMS Lochinvar and turned into the main Minesweeper training base in the second World War, it was then used as a base for the Naval fisheries protection boats until 1975 whe it was closed and handed over to the Scottish Office and subsequently the Scottish Government. It is now used as a collections depot for the National Museums of Scotland and not open to the public. |
